What is an air pump?
An air pump pushes air through tubing into the aquarium, usually via air stones or sponge filters.
Benefits of air pumps
- Improves surface agitation
- Increases oxygen exchange
- Powers air-driven equipment
When air pumps are needed
- Tanks with sponge filters
- Heavily stocked aquariums
- Low-flow or warm-water setups
Air pumps complement filtration but do not replace water circulation.
